RiseIQ for BigCommerce — Merchant Guide
Everything you need to install, activate, and get value from RiseIQ — no support ticket required.
What RiseIQ Does
RiseIQ reads your BigCommerce store(s) order and customer history and runs it through machine-learning models to tell you:
-
Which customers are likely to churn (and how confident that prediction is)
-
What each customer is worth over the next 12 months (CLTV — Customer Lifetime Value)
-
When a customer is due to reorder, and what they're likely to reorder
-
What products go well together, so you can recommend the right add-on at the right moment
It then does two things with those predictions:
-
Shows them to you, in the app, as dashboards and downloadable customer lists.
-
Shows the right recommendation to your shoppers, automatically, on your storefront (product pages, cart, home page) — no manual merchandising required.
1. Installing RiseIQ
-
Install RiseIQ from the BigCommerce App Store like any other app. You'll be taken through BigCommerce standard permission-approval screen — approve it to continue.
-
Choose your commerce model — B2C, B2B, or Hybrid (both). If you run BigCommerce B2B Edition alongside regular retail on the same storefront, choose Hybrid; if you have more than one storefront/channel, you'll also pick which one to view first (you can switch anytime later).
-
You'll land directly in the app, on the Basic Insights tab.
-
RiseIQ needs to run its first analysis pass before anything useful shows up. If you see "Start your first analysis", click Run Pipeline Now.
-
First run typically takes a few minutes, and can take up to ~45 minutes+ on a very large store (many years of order history). You don't need to keep the tab open — you'll get an email when it's done, or you can navigate away and come back later and click Check Again.
-
RiseIQ needs real order history to produce reliable predictions. Year-over-year charts (Price · Volume · Mix, Customer Shifting Analysis) need at least ~25 months of order history to be fully reliable — if your store is newer than that, you'll see a note explaining that those two charts should be treated as directional, not final, until you have more history.
-
You're free to use the app during your trial before deciding to subscribe — see Billing below for how the trial works.
2. Basic Insights — Your Dashboard
This is the home tab. It's organized top to bottom:
KPI
Four headline numbers, each showing the current rolling-365-day (L365) value and how it's changed versus the prior 365-day period:
-
Active Customers (L365)
-
Revenue (L365)
-
Orders (L365)
-
Avg Order Value
"L365" means "last 365 days," a rolling window that always ends today — not a fixed calendar year.
80/20 Rule card
Shows what share of your customers are driving ~80% of your L365 revenue, with a Download List button to export that exact customer list as a CSV — useful for a "VIP" email segment or a loyalty program.
Price · Volume · Mix Analysis
Two side-by-side waterfall charts comparing your last 365 days (L365) to the prior 365 days (Prev L365):
-
Revenue Bridge — PVM: breaks your revenue change down into how much came from price changes vs. order volume changes vs. everything else (mix shifts, discounts).
-
Customer Shifting Analysis: breaks the same revenue change down by customer — how much came from customers you gained, lost, or kept.
If your order history is under ~25 months, you'll see a small warning banner above these charts explaining that the year-over-year comparison is based on a partial prior period and will look more favorable than a true 2-year comparison until more history accumulates. This isn't a bug — it's flagging real data-completeness, and it goes away on its own as your store accumulates more history.
Customer Intelligence
-
Churn Risk Segments — customers bucketed into High (>70% probability of churning), Medium (50–70%), and Low (<50%) risk. Click a segment to see the actual customer list.
-
CLTV Segments — customers bucketed by their predicted annual forecasted lifetime value.
Recommendation Details
Three tabs, each with a search box :-
-
Upsell / Cross-sell — customer × recommended product, with a Purchase Score (a rating; anything above 3 is a strong suggestion) and estimated price.
-
Reorder Recs — customers who are due or overdue to reorder something they've bought before, with Reorder due date, Days to reorder and reorder status (Prime means ready to buy again, Overdue means the customer is already beyond their normal repurchase cycle, Nurture and Not yet ready to reorder need to be treated differently as both are not in the repurchase cycle).
-
FBT Combos — "frequently bought together" product pairings.
Note: If your BigCommerce account has more than one storefront (channel), use the dropdown at the top of the app to switch — each storefront runs its own independent pipeline, keeps its own data, and trains its own models. If a storefront also runs B2B Edition (Hybrid), a second toggle appears next to it for B2C Retail or B2B Wholesale — every dashboard number, chart, and recommendation list reflects whichever one is selected. There's no blended "combined" view: order patterns for companies and individual shoppers are different enough that averaging them together would be misleading, so RiseIQ always shows one real audience at a time.
For B2B Edition stores, every contact under the same company account is treated as one customer for analytics — churn, CLTV, and recommendations are computed per company, not per individual login, so any employee at that company sees the same numbers and suggestions.
3. Activation — Turning On Storefront Widgets
RiseIQ ships four storefront widgets that you can choose to add to your theme. Either add individual components by clicking on Preview Placement > Activate for each experience (e.g. Time to Restock) or Activate all.
If you run multiple storefronts, activate widgets separately for each one using the storefront switcher — activation doesn't carry over between storefronts automatically.
Once you activate, your customers will start seeing recommendations. To check what a customer will see you can login as that customer by going to your customer list and clicking on the small "..." icon to the right for that customer record and then 'Log in '. If you do not login, you will see just a placeholder of those widgets that encourage customers to sign in for personalized experience.
Notes
(a) The two home-page widgets (Customers Like You, Time to Restock) and the personalized parts of Frequently Bought Together only show real content to a signed-in customer who already has RiseIQ recommendation data. Guests, and customers for which RiseIQ doesn't have enough purchase history on yet, see a generic fallback (e.g. "Browse our featured products" or a sign-in prompt) instead of blank space — that's intentional, not broken.
(b) Can I turn a widget on for B2C shoppers but off for B2B buyers? — No. Widget on/off and ordering apply to the whole storefront, because BigCommerce's placement system attaches a widget to a page template for everyone who visits that channel — there's no audience-level toggle at the platform level. What does still differ automatically: once a widget is active, the actual recommended products shown to a logged-in B2B company buyer vs. a B2C shopper are already personalized correctly for each of them.
4. Ask RiseIQ — Chat With Your Data
A conversational interface over your own customer data. To use it:
-
Go to the Ask RiseIQ tab.
-
Get an API key from either Anthropic (sk-ant-api03-...) or OpenAI (sk-proj-... or sk-...) — whichever AI provider you already use or prefer. RiseIQ does not provide this key for you; you're billed directly by Anthropic/OpenAI for your own usage, RiseIQ never sees or stores your key outside your own browser session.
-
Paste it in and start asking questions in plain English, for example:
-
"Who are my top 10 customers by revenue?"
-
"Which customers are at high churn risk?"
-
"What products have the highest reorder rate?"
-
"Show customers who haven't ordered in 90+ days"
-
"What is my average CLTV by risk group?"
-
"Which customers are overdue for reorder?"
-
Ask RiseIQ writes and runs real queries against your own pipeline data (CLTV, risk scores, reorder predictions, product recommendations) — it's not a generic chatbot, it only knows what your own RiseIQ data contains.
5. Value Tracker — Proving ROI
The Value Tracker tab shows, side by side, a Baseline (locked automatically the very first time your pipeline ran, and never overwritten) versus Now (recomputed live) for six metrics: Avg Order Value, Order Cycle Time, Avg Churn Risk, Median Customer LTV, SKUs per Order, and SKUs per Customer.
This is designed to answer "is RiseIQ actually working?" honestly — on a brand-new install, expect to see 0% change across the board, since baseline and now are the same snapshot on day one. Real movement shows up over weeks/months as your storefront widgets and marketing segments start influencing real purchase behavior. There's nothing to configure here — just come back periodically to check progress.
6. Billing
-
30-day free trial, no charge until it ends.
-
$199/month after the trial, billed through BigCommerce own billing system (the same billing you already trust for your BigCommerce subscription itself) — RiseIQ never collects or stores payment details directly.
-
This flat rate covers your entire BigCommerce account, including every storefront and B2B Edition — there's no per-storefront upcharge. Adding a new storefront still requires a one-time 'Enable this storefront' confirmation in-app, but it won't change your price."
-
You can subscribe, change, or cancel your plan at any time from BigCommerce own hosted billing page (reachable via the Subscribe now banner in the app.
-
If you uninstall and reinstall later, RiseIQ reconnects to your existing subscription automatically rather than starting a new trial.
FAQ / Troubleshooting
-
I ran the pipeline but Basic Insights still looks empty / has zero customers. Check that your store actually has completed orders — RiseIQ reads real order history, and a brand-new store with no orders yet has nothing to analyze. Click Check Again on the Basic Insights screen; if it's been more than ~45 minutes, contact support (below).
-
I activated a widget but don't see it on my storefront. Confirm you clicked Activate after clicking on Preview Placement. Also double check you're testing the widgets that require sign-in (Customers Like You, Time to Restock) while genuinely logged in as a real customer — logged-out visitors are expected to see the fallback state, not the personalized one.
-
The Frequently Bought Together widget shows up on some products but not others. This is expected — FBT recommendations only exist for product/SKU combinations with real historical co-purchase data. A brand-new product, or one nobody's bought alongside anything else yet, won't have a pairing until more orders accumulate.
-
My Price · Volume · Mix charts say "R365" or feel off. If you ever see this, it's a display bug — please contact support with a screenshot; it should always read "L365."
-
Do I need to re-run the pipeline manually going forward? No — RiseIQ refreshes automatically on a nightly schedule once your first run completes. Manually running it again is only needed if you want to force an immediate refresh after a big data change (e.g. right after importing historical orders).
-
"Do I need to run the pipeline separately for each storefront?" — Yes, click "Run Pipeline Now" once per storefront; each is fully independent.
-
"Why do my B2C and B2B numbers look so different on the same storefront?" — Because they're trained as two separate models on two separate audiences (order frequency, size, and reorder timing genuinely differ between companies and individual shoppers) — switch the audience toggle to see either one specifically.
